The case
What the house needed.
A 1968 two-storey on a corner lot with a 100 A Zinsco panel, a new EV in the driveway and a heat pump quote on the kitchen table. The owners wanted to know whether the panel could carry all of it. The load calculation said no, by a wide margin.
What we did
- Filed the Sunnyvale permit and the PG&E service-change request in week one; PG&E gave us a Tuesday in week two.
- Replaced the meter main with a 200 A, 40-space panel, new grounding electrodes, a whole-house surge device.
- Re-landed all 19 existing circuits, added a 60 A EV circuit and two 240 V circuits roughed in for the heat pump and an induction range.
- Labeled every breaker by room, photographed the panel, emailed the schedule the same night.
The day
PG&E pulled the meter at 8:10. We had the new panel landed by 12:30, the inspector arrived at 1:15, and the meter went back in at 1:40. Five and a half hours. The owners went to lunch.
The house now
This is the house in the film at the top of the site: the EV charger in the garage, the whole house on one 200 A service, and the path lights we added at the end of week two.
Next: a site walk.
Forty minutes at your panel. We leave you a written scope, the permit path and a start date. Prices come after the walk, never before.
