EV charger circuits

A Level 2 charger is a dedicated 40 to 60-amp circuit, a 6-gauge run to the garage and a permit. We install Tesla Wall Connectors, ChargePoint, Wallbox and Emporia units, or a NEMA 14-50 outlet if you want to keep your options open.

  • Load-management module when the panel is full (no upgrade needed)

How the job runs.

Durations are typical for a Sunnyvale single-family home. Yours is confirmed on the site walk.

  1. Day 0

    Site walk

We confirm the panel has room, measure the run and agree where the charger sits relative to your charge port.

  2. Week 1

    Permit

Over-the-counter in Sunnyvale for most chargers. We pull it.

  3. Install day

    Three to five hours

Breaker in, conduit run, charger mounted and commissioned on your phone before we leave.

  4. Week 2

    Inspection

City final. We meet the inspector so you do not need to take the morning off.

Questions we get on this job.

My panel is full. Do I need an upgrade first?

Not always. A load-management device can share an existing circuit with the dryer or range, or throttle the charger when the house is busy. We check this on the site walk before suggesting a panel.

Hard-wired or plug-in?

Hard-wired runs cooler at 48A and is required for most chargers above 40A. A 14-50 outlet is fine at 32A and lets you swap chargers later.

Can you run it to a detached garage?

Yes. That is a trench, conduit and a sub-panel. Add a week for the dig.
