Start with the right questions.
A paving sample in a showroom tells only part of the story. View it in your own light and consider texture, heat, the transition at the door and how furniture will sit.
Put the details in the plan.
Ask how the base, edges and drainage will be built. Those details matter as much as the surface you see.
Bring it to the site walk.
Bring photographs, a list of what is not working today and any constraints on access or timing. The aim of the first visit is to turn those observations into a scope you can understand.
