Start with the right questions.
A play area, a view from the kitchen and a place to sit are different briefs. Map those uses before removing anything. Keep the portions that work; give the rest to planting, gravel paths or a shaded terrace.
Put the details in the plan.
Check drainage, tree roots and irrigation before the planting plan is final. The most useful handover is a simple map showing each watering zone.
Bring it to the site walk.
Bring photographs, a list of what is not working today and any constraints on access or timing. The aim of the first visit is to turn those observations into a scope you can understand.
